Aim: 
To provide students with a framework for applied research through examining research methods and preparing research proposals in information technology areas.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Master of Computing or the Postgraduate Diploma in Computing programme to enrol in this course.
Topics include: 

Establish the basic requirements for research and identify research problems,
search, analyse, critique and synthesise literature / information pertaining to a potential research topic,
determine the steps involved in developing a research proposal (identify an area, formulate a research problem, select a solution procedure, design an experiment, address ethical concerns, develop and defend a proposal),
experiment with the various techniques used for analysing quantitative and qualitative observations to establish their appropriateness and limitations,
use a critique of other proposals to improve the initial draft research proposal, determine the content and appropriate style of presentation together with tools used for presenting results
