Programme overview

This programme is designed for people who need a broad, generalist understanding of Information Systems, equipping learners with the core IT skills and technical skills and knowledge to meet the needs of a range of Information Systems roles. Develop an understanding of how to provide administration and ongoing support of IT infrastructure in a range of organisations.

Where to from here

Upon successful completion of this programme, you can go onto further study in New Zealand Diploma in Cybersecurity or Bachelor of Computing Systems.

 

Admission requirements

For this programme, you will need the following:

  1. A minimum of 14 credits at NCEA level 2 in ICT_related subjects 
  2. A minimum of 10 credits at NECA level 1 in literacy and 10 credits at NCEA level 1 in numeracy,
  3. Be at least 16 years old by the time the programme begins,
  4. If English is not your first language, you are required to have one or more of the following:
  • Have achieved NCEA Level 3 and New Zealand University entrance
  • Be able to provide evidence you satisfy our criteria for existing English proficiency
  • Have achieved at least one English proficiency outcome in the last two years

Don't have NCEA? We also accept:

  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 on the NZQF or above or an equivalent qualification; or
  • Provide sufficient evidence to be eligible for special or discretionary admission.

Support Concepts and Principles (HTCS5602) 15.0 credits (0.125 EFTS) This course will provide students with the IT technical support concepts and practices needed to manage hardware and software resources.
User Interface Design Principles (HTCS5603) 15.0 credits (0.125 EFTS) This course will introduce students to the core user interface design skills needed for information systems development.
Quality Assurance and Deployment (HTCS5604) 15.0 credits (0.125 EFTS) This course will provide students with the skills needed to manage testing and quality assurance, deployment, user training, and associated change management in agile and structured team development contexts
Database Design Principles (HTCS5605) 15.0 credits (0.125 EFTS) This course will introduce students to the core concepts, techniques, principles and skills needed for database design, development and management.
Programming Principles (HTCS5606) 15.0 credits (0.125 EFTS) This course will introduce students to the core concepts, techniques, principles and skills needed for web development.
IS Application Project (HTCS5607) 30.0 credits (0.25 EFTS) This course will enable students to apply information systems development skills and knowledge to an integrated project in an unfamiliar context.
