Aim: 
The purpose of this course is to enable the student to combine a range of technical, analytical and communication processes for the exterior cladding and interior lining of a non-rectangular two-storey dwelling.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Applied Technology programme or the Diploma in Applied Technology Building programme to enrol in this course. Restriction: BUIT5102.
Topics include: 

General
Territorial Authorities and Independent Certifiers Timelines Plant and equipment
Sub-trades Manufactures specifications, producer statements, durability and sustainability Site plans and documents, building code, handling and storage, eco energy, Calculations of costs and quantities
Exterior Wall Cladding
Building wraps and types of Cavity construction Thermal envelope principles, types of insulation, internal and external (EIFS) thermal insulation, installation methods and thermal window glazing systems
A range of timber weatherboard (horizontal and vertical), PVC, profiled metal, panel, plywood, solid plaster and finishing systems, cement, concrete and masonry cladding systems and products
Ranges of exterior joinery and hardware E2/AS1, weather tightness, control joints and flashing systems
Roof Cladding
Range of roof claddings (concrete, metal and clay tiles, timber, asphalt and slate shingles, rubber roof membranes) including substrates and underlay?s
Fascia and barge boards, valley gutters, hip and ridge caps, roof and apron flashings, penetration flashings and skylights Sealants and adhesives Waterproof membranes, specialist coatings, bituminous, or adhesive systems
Interior
Range of interior dry and wet wall linings (plaster board and coving's, fibrous plaster, fibre cement, timber, panelling, coated MDF, ceiling and ceramic tiles, rigid polypropylene sheets and profiled metal
Bracing requirements
Finishing lines and mouldings, dado's, joinery and cabinetry doors, fire doors and cavity sliders Hardware and fixings Types of sound and fire insulation, fire ratings and fire place installation requirements
Stairs and balustrades;
Health and Safety
Health and Safety hazard identification plan and controls for working at height
Practical
Set out a stair stringer to NZ code and Standards
