Aim: 
Students will gain an understanding of the impact of societal structures and how individuals and communities respond to them.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation programme to enrol in this course.
Topics include: 

In this course, students will gain an understanding of the impact of societal structures and how individuals and communities respond to them. As such, the course will focus on the following topics
1. Critical inquiry and critical thinking
2. Civic participation 3. Community action 4. Ethical and social responsibility in a diverse world
5. Contemporary social issues (eg, poverty, inequality, homelessness, climate change) 6. Academic skills
