Aim: 
To develop a sound understanding of architectural design process theory in the context of the general problem-solving theory of human intelligence and creativity, and apply that understanding to a small design and build assignment.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Architectural Studies programme to enrol in this course.
Topics include: 

Human Intelligence and Guilford's Structure of the Intellect Model, especially the process axis. Design Process Model
briefing; client relationships; site survey and analysis; user interview technique, questionnaire development; literature searching, problem statement model and development; problem analysis; production of alternatives
physical and psychological creative techniques; nature of right brain activity, nature of delayed evaluation and "playful" mental attitudes; evaluation of alternatives using left and right brain techniques
comprehensive use of criteria and Alexander's geometric properties; intuition and holistic evaluative techniques; development of chosen alternative into sketch design; development of sketch design into working drawings; project implementation and control in the design office from the design process perspective.
