Aim: 
To develop skills in research methodology that will allow students to plan and initiate research, to analyse data and to critically appraise research findings.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Level 6).
Topics include: 

Scientific method and research methodology
research process, literature reviews and constructing research proposals, Information literacy, bibliographic databases, questionnaire and survey design, experimental and non-experimental design,
cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, Ethics and research
ethical and medico-legal issues in animal research, informed consent, environmental ethics,
Nature and collection of data in research
population vs
samples, types of data, issues in experimental design
variation, randomisation, independence of samples, replication and pseudo-replication,
Statistical Analysis
descriptive vs
inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, testing categorical and scale data, testing for differences and relationships, parametric vs
nonparametric statistics
SPSS, excel and R to conduct analyses,
Reporting and communication of science

elements of scientific reporting (introduction, materials, results, discussion), scientific writing
