Unitec People Capability
Unitec is committed to the professional and personal development of staff and encourages all staff to enhance their academic qualifications by enrolling in courses and programmes, particularly those offered by Unitec.
People Capability focuses on building organisational capability and culture through the provision of staff development opportunities and processes that assist all staff to perform well in their position and help them meet their department's and Unitec's strategic objectives.
This is achieved by working collaboratively with faculties and departments to develop team and individual performance, building leadership capability, providing a framework that enables new starts to quickly and effectively integrate into Unitec's organisational culture, and by providing an annual suite of blended learning and development opportunities aligned with organisational needs.
Te Puna Ako Academic Advisors
Te Puna Ako represents the inter-relationship between learning and teaching. The following principles set a standard for how we learn and teach at Unitec:
- Conversation
- Curiosity/Enquiry
- Collaboration
- Self-Efficacy
- Problem-Solving
- Creativity
- Reflection.
To put these principles into practice, academic advisors work alongside academic staff in a variety of ways. They offer coaching for new teachers, run workshops on the Essentials of Teaching and Learning, and provide advice on Departmental or Programme professional development and communities of practice. These can be done on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
Staff Induction Programme
Unitec’s induction programme is designed to successfully introduce new staff to the organisation. The first few weeks and months of employment are important in shaping the on-going relationship between a staff member and Unitec.
A well run induction process ensures that the initial period of employment is a positive and informative experience for the new staff member and supports them in becoming familiar with Unitec, their own work area and the responsibilities of their position as quickly as possible.
