What is an Eco-rep?
Eco-Reps are Unitec staff and students who act as environmental representatives for Unitec. They make a difference, lead by example, promote environmentally responsible behaviour on campus and help implement Unitec’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
Eco-Reps help develop and implement programmes and events that challenge us all to adopt more sustainable behaviour.

What We Are Looking For:
- People who want to make a real difference
- Creative, enthusiastic individuals
- Practical people with design or building skills
- Keen Recyclers
- People with Green Fingers - or anyone capable of using a spade!
- Staff and students with a passion for environmental issues
- Great communication skills
- Social marketing experts
- People interested in sustainability research or monitoring
What You Will Gain:
- A practical knowledge of sustainable actions
- Experience in design and implementation of environmental programmes
- Leadership and peer education skills
- Public speaking and/or news writing skills

What Eco-reps Do:
Eco-reps come together 3 times a year for training and a programme review. You can act as a representative for your building or course and/or join our working parties and get involved in:
- waste audits
- rubbish clean ups
- recycling system set ups
- helping at E-Waste days
- tree planting
- gardening and weeding
- biodiversity monitoring
- pest control
- growing food
- communications/resource design
- case study write ups
- research
- identifying more sustainable options
- programme design
- preparing business cases for sustainable investment
