JOB: Director & Architectural Designer, Eco Habitats
QUALIFICATION: National Diploma in Architectural Technology
"I originally studied Industrial Design at university and worked as a product designer for the 12 years. However, I’ve always been interested in architecture and was looking for a new challenge, so I decided to enrol in Unitec’s Architectural Technology course. Most of the tutors are industry professionals, so the knowledge they pass onto students is really up-to-date. Their passion and knowledge of the subject was also a strong motivation for me to succeed. Since graduating I’ve set up my own Architectural Design business (Lone Pine Design). I really enjoy working out tricky design and construction problems, and presenting a design option to a client that meets all their needs is really rewarding. I’m very happy to have completed several projects in my first year, and to have a string of happy clients behind me who are referring more business my way. Without my qualification I would not be where I am today.
Going forward I plan to specialise in eco friendly residential design and build. I’m passionate about reducing the environmental impact of New Zealand homes and creating homes for people that are healthy and comfortable places to live. In the past year I’ve become a member of the Green Building Council, a qualified Homestar Practitioner and I’m in the process of becoming a Homestar Assessor too."
