JOB: Rehabilitation Assistant, Stewart Rehabilitation Services

QUALIFICATION: Bachelor of Sport (Physical Education)

“I love sports and I’ve always liked being outdoors and active, so physical education was the right degree for me. I chose Unitec because it was more practical than other institutions: everything we were taught, we got to practise. I definitely recommend utilising the lecturers. They may seem scary at first, but they just want you to pass and they’ll help you in any way they can.

My qualification is so relevant to my job. I help to rehabilitate people who’ve had traumatic brain injuries, and I use both the teaching and the sport skills that I learnt in my degree to get them excited about getting active. I’m surprised that I can actually get up and take groups, because I used to be a really shy person. My confidence has grown as I’ve got to know the clients and I find it really rewarding seeing them improve. I’d like to do more study in muscular-skeletal systems and get more involved in injury rehabilitation in the future."
