How do I apply for credit recognition / cross credits?

If your programme includes a course that is very similar (e.g. at the same or higher level) to a course you have already completed - either as part of a different programme or prior to studying at Unitec, you may be eligible for credit recognition (cross credits) and reduce the number of courses you need to study for your Unitec programme.

An application form for Credit Recognition/Cross-credit can be found here. You can also pick one up from your nearest Student Central.

Once you have completed the application form you will also need to submit:

  • An academic transcript to confirm that you have successfully completed the course, and
  • The course descriptor that outlines learning outcomes, assessments that were completed and a summary of content that was covered as a part of that course.

Once received, the department will carefully check and compare the content and level of both courses to determine whether credit recognition can be granted.

There is an administration charge per application (you can apply for multiple credit recognitions on one application). For more information on application fees please see here.

International students who wish to discuss cross credits - please contact our International department at international@unitec.ac.nz for more information.

It is recommended that you get your application in early, as all applications for credit recognition should be processed before you start your programme.
