How to complete your application tasks

When you apply to study at Unitec, you create an account and have access to your own Enrolment Dashboard - this is where you can see the list of application tasks you need to complete.

You will need to do some of the tasks below, not all of them!

Log in to your Enrolment Dashboard to see what tasks you need to do.

For some programmes you need to do 3 or 4 application tasks, and others have more. Some programmes have more tasks because they are popular, so we need more information from you. Some programmes have more tasks because of working with children, so safety checks are required.

Statement of purpose

A Statement of purpose is a personal statement, written by you, explaining why you want to study your chosen programme at Unitec.

Your statement could include what interests you about this programme, previous work or study experience, and thoughts about your future plans or career aspirations.

Your statement helps Unitec understand why you are applying for the programme, if you have the appropriate experience and if your chosen programme is the best fit for you.

What you need to write

Please read your programme’s Statement of purpose instructions to learn what you need to write.

Instructions are not the same for all programmes, so you need to login to your Enrolment Dashboard, and click on the Statement of purpose ‘Action Needed’ button to read the instructions.

You might want to copy the instructions and put them in a place where you can read them again while you write your statement.

Guidelines for writing your statement

Statements are usually about 300-500 words (about 3 to 6 paragraphs). When you read your programme’s instructions it may specify how long your statement needs to be.

The statement must be written by you (the student applying). We want to know why you want to study with us, and only you can tell us this.

It must not be written by someone else. Do not ask a friend, agent, or family member to do it for you.

Do not copy information from Unitec’s website or other websites promoting New Zealand.

Do not copy paragraphs written by other students.

How to complete this task:

When you have written your Statement of purpose:

  1. Login to your Enrolment Dashboard.
  2. Click on the ‘Action Needed’ button for this task.
  3. Write or copy and paste your Statement of purpose into the form.
  4. Click Send.

Certify your documents

Learn how to certify your documents.

Name change

The name you provide when you apply to Unitec needs to exactly match the legal name in the documents you provide to support your application.

If you have changed your name and it does not match your documents, you will need to supply certified copies of documents that confirm your name change or bring them into Unitec for us to sight.

If you change your name after you submit your application, let us know. If you don’t advise us of your name change, this can prevent us from processing your application or conferring your qualification.
