At Unitec we’re proud of our close links with the performing arts and animation industries, and once again we were delighted to be a silver sponsor of another successful V Energy 48HOURS Furious Filmmaking for 2010.

We are offering a range of opportunities to V48HOURS participants to help them increase their knowledge in the areas of film and television, art direction, writing for screen and directing.

FREE 1-day film-making workshops, including Screenwriting, Art Direction and Cinematography - applications have now closed, confirmation of places will now be sent out.

Here are some more good news - Unitec film grads has caught the eye of Hollywood directors yet again in the recent V48HOURS Furious Filmmaking competition with current Unitec students and graduates involved in over 12 teams this year.

2008 graduates Alan Parr (directing) and Venusi Taumoepeau (camera) - who is now a Unitec staff member at the Centre for Pacific Development - were part of Team Idiotvision that finished runner up in the Auckland final for their romantic comedy Confessions of a Fabricator.

But the disappointment of missing out on the top prize was more than made up for when their short film was chosen as the wildcard for the New Zealand national finals by renowned Hollywood directors Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro. It is the second year running Idiotvision has caught the eye of Jackson and del Toro and won the coveted wildcard out of hundreds of other entries. Last year, Parr and Taumoepeau were part of Idiotvision's success with The Revenger, make sure you check it out on Youtube.

On top of that Unitec photography student involved in one of the films entered, Making Babies For China, made by Team Stone Soup, has won Best Makeup and Best Use of Character awards at the 8 May Auckland final.
