Last week Unitec hosted Year 11 students from a range of Auckland secondary schools during a three day SCI-TECH experience.
SCI-TECH is a joint venture between Rotary, AUT, MIT and Unitec designed to give students a real taste of science and technology programmes on offer.
There were 11 activities in total spread across the three education providers, with Unitec hosting workshops in Landscape Architecture, Architectural Technology and the Human Performance Lab. During the three days 180 students experienced what it’s like to study at Unitec.
Almost without exception, survey results indicated students loved the SCI-TECH experience, with some stand out comments such as “I learned a lot about what I may/may not want to do with my science career and even discovered that I should be open minded about learning,” and “Unitec was my favourite part”. Some even indicated they were considering persuing study at Unitec once they leave school, saying “It was really enjoyable, I would definitely do it again. I’m seriously considering some of the courses.”
