Unitec’s Steven Luatua makes Blues starting line-up

17 May 2012

Unitec student and Blues player, Steven Luatua, is on the rise and making his starting line-up debut against the Crusaders this weekend.

On Saturday, Steven Luatua will take the field for the Blues in the number 6 jersey against the Crusaders.  It's a fantastic achievement for the 20-year-old, who is also studying for his Bachelor of Sport degree at Unitec.

"I'm really stoked to be named in the starting line-up, and against a team like the Crusaders is even better," says Steven.

At today's media round-up with the team, Blues coach Pat Lam commended Steven's skills, saying he had 'every confidence' in their decision to promote him to the starting line-up for this weekend.

Steven is currently completing his first-year papers of his degree and, while he’s on the rise with his rugby, he is also looking forward to what the future holds once he graduates.

"I'm keen to become a PE teacher, and work with youth to get involved in sport," says Steven.

His family will also fly out to watch him make his starting line-up debut in Christchurch. He's excited by the challenge that lies ahead, and is proud to have the support of the Blues franchise, fans, Unitec, and his family.

"I'm ready and focused on what we (the Blues) need to do, and not on who we're up against or what their game plan is.  I'm looking forward to it!"

Congratulations Steven – we wish you and the team all the best this weekend.
