As a Unitec student you are eligible for a number of study awards, no matter what programme you're enrolled in or whether you're studying on a part-time or full-time basis.
Unitec Study Awards
Unitec offers a large number of Study Awards to prospective and current students. Each award is worth NZ$2,000 towards your student fees. To be eligible for an award you must be a current Unitec student or have applied for enrolment in a full-time, full-year Unitec programme. You will be at an advantage if you're enrolled in a diploma or degree-level programme. Some of the Unitec Study Awards are reserved for secondary students who are currently studying at a Unitec Partner School and have applied for enrolment at Unitec.
Postgraduate Scholarships
As a masters and doctoral student you may be eligible for Postgraduate Scholarships. Full-time doctoral scholarships cover domestic fees - plus a NZ$25,000 living allowance. Masters scholarships cover full-time or part-time domestic fees, and part-time doctoral scholarships cover domestic fees.
Whai Ake Mentoring Awards
If you’re a Unitec student and enrolled as a New Zealand Māori, you may be eligible for support through the Whai Ake Mentoring Programme offered by Unitec and Transpower. As a prospective Māori student, you can apply for a first-year scholarship worth $2,000 off your fees – there are 15 general scholarships on offer, as well as another five scholarships available to students of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Meanwhile, Māori students in their second year of study or above who would like to train and work as Whai Ake Mentors can apply for a $1,000 mentoring award.
Scholarships for International Students
New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) are available to people from selected developing countries and cover tuition, economy air travel and a basic living allowance at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
