Grammar Awareness for Language Teachers
This 9 hour short course will sharpen your knowledge of the various aspects of basic grammar, and how to use grammar references in areas of difficulty. The course runs over 3 days.
If you are an in-service teacher, or planning to teach English, this is a great refresher course. It will sharpen your knowledge of various aspects of basic grammar, and how to use grammar references in areas of difficulty.
You learn about parts of speech, verb phrases, modal verbs, conditionals, prepositions of time and place, other discrete grammar items,the basic vocabulary of grammar, and how to use grammar references.

Phonology Awareness for Language Teachers
This nine-hour course focuses on the essential aspects of English pronunciation. If you are a teacher who lacks confidence in this area, this is the ideal refresher course. You will learn about sounds and syllables, stress (word and sentence), intonation, and how to identify aspects of pronunciation. You will also explore practical ways to teach these aspects in the classroom.

e-Language Learning
This course looks at some of the ways in which ICT - Information Communication Technology - (e.g. blogs, podcasting) can be used for language learning. It is suitable for those with some experience in creating online accounts (e.g. Facebook) and using online environments. It will present examples of the application of digital tools in the language teaching classroom as well as explore ways of integrating digital tools into the second language classroom.

Course fees includes tuition, a student service fee and GST.
Admission to these courses is open, but classes are limited to 20 students.
Participants with English as an additional language should have at least upper intermediate proficiency in English.
NOTE: Unitec may be obliged to cancel a course. If this situation occurs, all fees will be refunded. Student loans and allowances are not available for short courses.
Time and date
Each course is nine hours in duration and will run from 9am to 12pm over three Saturdays.
Once we have the required 10 participants needed for a course to run, you will be notified of the start date.
No two courses will be run over the same dates.
Venue
These courses are offered at the Department of Languages, Building 170, Unitec, Entry 3, Carrington Road, Mt Albert, Auckland.
You will be advised of a room number once a course is confirmed.
Parking
Ample free parking is available directly outside the Language building.
