Unitec New Zealand | Experience Real World Learning

Show me programmes available

As information technology advances, exciting new career opportunities are opening up. IT people increasingly need to be multi-skilled individuals who push boundaries and think creatively – and those are the kind of graduates we aim to produce.

We offer computing qualifications at every level, from certificate, diploma and bachelors, to postgraduate, masters, and New Zealand's first professional doctorate programme Doctor of Computing.

Inspiring lecturers

Learn from dedicated experts and practitioners at the cutting-edge of computing and IT. Originating from around the world, our lecturers possess a wealth of both academic knowledge and commercial experience.

They’re in touch with the real world of computing and IT too – one lecturer is a regular guest speaker at Telecom, whilst another contracts to both Telecom and TelstraClear.

Dr Bob Barbour’s long-standing passion for driving simulation games has inspired him to research adult experiences in a group driving simulator at Unitec, while Kay Fenton and our innovative teaching team have applied a novel theme – the Iditarod Great Sled Race – to the Certificate in Information Technology’s curriculum.

Then there’s Dr Logan Muller, who led a half-million dollar research project that brought internet technology to the isolated alpaca farmers of Antabamba in the South American Andes.

Computing for the real-world

We try hard to ensure that the skills and knowledge you develop are in demand by industry. Some of our courses enable you to sit professional qualifications and become a Microsoft Certified Professional.

In our Bachelor of Computing Systems programme, you'll have the opportunity to experience a real workplace and prove yourself in an industry environment. This will help you develop the critical, communication and self-management skills essential in the real world.

Access to facilities

You'll be able to practise what you've learnt and complete your assignments at a time that suits you with swipe card access to our computer labs, seven days a week.
