Increasing industry demand

There is a shortage of osteopaths throughout New Zealand, and Unitec is the only place in the country where you can gain the qualifications needed to register. Osteopathy is a rapidly growing profession and continues to expand as awareness of this hands-on healthcare profession grows.

Trained nurses also continue to be in demand, and there are masses of nursing jobs available, both in New Zealand and overseas. Medical imaging is the fastest growing of the health professions, and needs qualified employees now. Some of our programmes allow you to specialise, which is highly sought after by industry. Choose from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, radiation therapy or ultrasound. A Unitec qualification in medical imaging will help prepare you for this exciting industry and offers a great advantage in finding employment quickly.

We are proud that our qualifications are recognised by industry: the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science and the Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) are endorsed by both the New Zealand Institute of Medical Radiation Technology and the Medical Radiation Technologists Board. All of our osteopathy programmes are endorsed by The Osteopathic Council of NZ.

A healthy dose of work experience

Real-world experience is incorporated into all of our health programmes. Study osteopathy with us and you’ll treat patients at our fully functioning osteopathic clinic on our Mt Albert campus. As a nursing student, you’ll use our simulated health training facility at Waitakere Hospital. As a Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) student, you’ll spend at least two days per week in a real hospital or clinic. And as a student of the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science, you’ll work as you study, and have the chance to take part in professional development workshops.

Flexible study options

We offer a wide range of programmes that stretch from certificate to masters level. You can study part-time or full-time, and many programmes include block courses.
