Portfolio Development For Carpenters - The National Certificate in Carpentry - Practical Units

This course has been developed for non-qualified carpenters who have worked in New Zealand's building industry for a minimum of 7 years, but have not undertaken any formal carpentry training. It is designed for students to put together a portfolio of evidence of achievements in order to gain the National Certificate in Carpentry Practical Unit Standards.

The Theory Unit Standards can be achieved by enrolling in the two year part time course, National Certificate in Carpentry Theory Units

Programme Details

At the commencement of this programme students will be required to attend an orientation session where the portfolio development and evaluation process will be explained. Students will be required to prepare a timeline for their portfolio and with the guidance of our teaching staff, be expected to complete a portfolio of evidence of achievement at the end the programme, in order to gain the practical Unit Standards.

Open forum classes are offered at selected dates throughout the year, providing students with an opportunity to discuss progress of their developing portfolios.

Once completed, students will be required to submit a Portfolio of Evidence, which will be assessed against the required unit standards to achieve the National Certificate Practical Unit Standards. A transcript of completed units will be forwarded to students as and when they are completed. Upon completion of all unit standards, (at the request and cost to the student), the Department of Building Technology will register results with NZQA.
