Learn English for a better life in New Zealand

If you've come to New Zealand to work or study, learning the English language is the best way to improve your chances of success. You can take English classes at any level, from beginners to advanced/degree level. Some programmes focus on the language skills you need to find a job, and may even include work experience. Others are designed to prepare you for further study. Our lecturers are friendly and helpful, and we have the latest resources to support your learning.

A new language will open the doors to the world

With two or more languages at the tip of your tongue you can really go places. We offer short courses and customised language training in several international languages and in te reo Māori, Matauranga Māori Electives which explore the many layers of Māori language and culture, as well as a Certificate in Liaison Interpreting.

At Unitec, you'll learn to speak the language fluently - because your lecturer will be a native speaker, or an accomplished linguist with a high level of fluency in the language. Classes are small so you'll benefit from one-on-one attention, and we provide a range of interactive resources to help you learn.

Language teacher qualifications for an international career

Learning to teach English could open up exciting career opportunities for you, in New Zealand or around the world. Our Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (Cambridge), Certificate in Language Teaching, National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (Educator) and short courses in language teaching prepare you for teaching in a variety of context, building both your practical skills and theoretical knowledge. We also offer a Master of Education for language teachers who wish to develop their knowledge and skills to advance their career in education. To help you fit study into your busy life, our programmes can also be studied part-time.
