Develop the skills for a rewarding career in event management, international communication, the media or public relations.

Are you always networking? Do you love events and being connected? Want to help make a difference in the world? If so, why not make a career of it? Bright, creative and savvy communication professionals are in huge demand right around the world. At Unitec, we train skilled communicators who can hit the ground running and work across a range of roles in these diverse industries. Graduates of our communication studies programmes are highly sought after, offering a great combination of practical ability and theoretical knowledge. Locally, nationally and internationally, businesses and organisations are seeking out our graduates for their ability to manage communications across cultural borders, to organise and produce complex events, and to work with – and within – the media.

Real-world learning

With an Event Management major that is unique in New Zealand and other exciting majors in International Communication, Media Studies and Public Relations, our bachelors degree offers a solid foundation for a career in communications. You’ll benefit from real-world learning, gaining plenty of practical knowledge and hands-on experience through work placements with organisations such as Bang Brand Experience & Events Ltd, Greenpeace, Konica Minolta Ltd and Television New Zealand. You’ll work in small classes and learn from our friendly and knowledgeable lecturers. With their help and support, you’ll become an articulate and confident communicator who can think both critically and creatively.

Links with industry

Our industry links ensure that you’ll come into regular contact with some of this country’s top communicators. You’ll learn from guest lecturers who are the experts in their field and build contacts that, in an industry driven by networking, will prove invaluable as you develop your career. It’s thanks to connections like these that our graduates have the knowledge and understanding to take on positions in leading organisations throughout New Zealand and around the world, including Air New Zealand, Auckland City Council, MTV, Ogilvy Metro, Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind, Vodafone and World Vision.

Advance your career with postgraduate study

Our bachelors degree provides the perfect stepping-stone to the world of business, as well as to the media and the not-for-profit sectors. It also acts as route into our Postgraduate Diploma in International Communication or our Master of International Communication – qualifications that will take you to the top of your profession, here and overseas.
